Business Analytics

I am currently working on my Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA) at California State University Channel Islands. I chose their curriculum for the opportunity to gain in-demand practical skills and explore the STEM fields behind them, including AI, Machine Learning, Python, SQL, Data Visualization, and Business Statistics. The school also offers exciting opportunities to learn from expert faculty and business leaders the many ways to apply these skills to assist businesses.

Current Projects

Graduate Assistant in AI Research (with Prof. Minder Chen)

  • Researching AI implementation on campus

  • Producing a bimonthly campus newsletter called "Channeling AI"

  • Developing custom ChatGPT models

  • Attending special events on AI for business students

AI Ethics Board (member)

  • Participating in triweekly board meetings

  • Applying knowledge of AI to engage in discourse about its ethical use

  • Researching and writing white papers on topics pertinent to AI implementation on campus

AI Consultant Training Program for Small Business Advisors (Google.org, the Economic Development Collaborative, and the Small Business Development Center)

  • Applied AI modeling and training skills to replicate the rhetorical and reasoning style of an SBDC business advisor

  • Leveraged HeuriSight and Protobots applications to design and iterate a chatbot that captured an advisor's consulting approach

  • Enhanced advisor's ability to support small business clients

How My Background Shapes My Approach to AI

My earlier studies in rhetoric, environmental science, and business give me a multidisciplinary lens that strengthens my AI work.

  • Rhetoric refined my writing ability, whether through argumentation, technical research, or fiction. My current research provides the opportunity to design training prompts that map these skills onto an AI model. This could then provide the basis for many apps, such as ones that mimic my writing style to produce content with high fidelity, that assist others in following rhetorical rules in a way that expresses their own individual style, and that copy business advisors' communication style to work with their clients to gather information, before the human steps in. I have already made a prototype for the latter as part of the AI internship, and it promises further application to many businesses that want personalized chatbots.

  • Ecology taught me general principles of environmental protection and how to study complex systems using the scientific method. AI offers new ways to approach sustainability. For instance, it could help uncover patterns in deforestation or ocean pollution by looking at larger amounts of data and geographical mapping than humans could on their own. It could offer ways for companies to analyze their compliance with ESG regulations and investments. And it could help government agencies such as water districts find ways to upgrade their systems to better serve communities and the environment.

  • My MBA taught me principles of business strategy, leadership, operations, and finance. This provides me a great foundation to apply my current hard STEM skills to the business world. AI and data analytics have so many use cases and possibilities for implementation, throughout virtually all industries, government and military agencies, and academic pursuits.

If you are curious about ways AI could support your business, I would be happy to discuss options and help determine what might be feasible.
